Your group already texts Wordle scores. Make it a league.

WordPlayLeague reads them where they land. Days build into a weekly race, and weekly wins into a season title — with divisions, promotion and relegation along the way. Nobody downloads anything.

See it work

The Wordle league that runs itself.

A score posts, the table updates, and nobody keeps score. This is a real week in a real league — Pickle Party, Wordle 1,939.

How it works

One person sets it up. Everyone else just keeps playing.

Most Wordle league tools ask every player to make an account and re-type a score they already shared. That is a second chore, every day, forever — and it is why those leagues quietly die in week three.

STEP 01

Connect your group

Point WordPlayLeague at the place your group already talks — a group text, a Slack channel, or a Discord server. Name the league, pick how many weekly wins ends a season, done. About two minutes, once.

STEP 02

Everyone plays as normal

Players paste their Wordle grid in the same thread they always have. No app to download, no account to make, no website to visit. If they are already sharing scores, they are already playing in the league.

STEP 03

The league runs itself

Scores are read as they land. Standings, weekly winners, divisions, promotion and relegation, season titles and a public league page — all kept up to date without anyone keeping score.

The weekly race

Monday's 3 still matters on Sunday.

A daily score on its own is just a number you share and forget. WordPlayLeague collects the week into one table that resolves on Sunday night, so every day's result is still live right up until the week closes.

Your best scores count toward a weekly total — the manager sets how many, from three to seven. Fail a puzzle and it is thrown out rather than scored, but you still need enough valid days to qualify. By Thursday people know exactly who they are chasing and what they need.

Winning a week is a result, not an average. It goes on the board, counts toward the season, and is the thing your group argues about.

Divisions

Same puzzle. Actual stakes.

Bigger groups can split into two divisions. Win Division II and you go up. Finish bottom of Division I and you go down. It gives the players who are not going to win the title something real to play for — and something real to avoid.

Missing a week is what usually sends you down. Players who did not post enough valid scores are relegated ahead of players who simply had a bad week, and we always say which it was.

Nobody is punished for arriving late: a player who joins mid-season is never charged for weeks before they existed, and anyone newly promoted gets immunity for the rest of that season.

Where it works

The score goes where it was always going.

Pick the place your group already shares results. The league reads that channel — there is nowhere else for anyone to go.

Group text (SMS)

Works on any phone, with no app and no account. Add the league number to your group thread and keep texting exactly as you do now. It is the lowest-friction option and the one where the most people actually take part.

Slack

Lives in the channel your team already uses. Scores are picked up from the messages people were posting anyway. Available in the Slack Marketplace.

Discord

Same for servers. Paste your grid in the channel and it counts toward the week, the season and your all-time stats.

What the league sends

The commentary is half the fun.

A league nobody talks about is a spreadsheet. These are the messages that make your group argue.

Sunday race update Free

Sunday morning, before the week closes, everyone gets the state of the race: who leads, who can still catch them, exactly what each player needs, and what happens if it ties. Included on every plan, forever.

Monday recap

The week written up — winner, margin, milestones, who went up and who went down. The message your group screenshots.

Daily reactions

Optional needling when someone fails a puzzle or opens with a one-guess miracle. Off by default, with the tone dialled up or down per league.

Pricing

One price for the whole league.

Players never pay and never see a bill. The manager pays once a month and everyone else just plays.

Slack & Discord
From $5 / month

One league, priced by how many players are in it. Starts with a 14-day free trial — no card needed to begin.

Group text (SMS)
From $8 / month

Text-message leagues cost a little more because carriers charge us for every message sent. That gap is the fee passed through, not a premium.

AI commentary
From $2 / month

Optional add-on for the written recaps and daily reactions. The Sunday race update is free on every plan with or without it.

Questions

What people ask before starting a league.

What is a Wordle league?

A Wordle league turns the daily puzzle into an ongoing competition for a fixed group of people. Instead of each person comparing one day's score, results accumulate: days build into a weekly total, weeks produce a winner, and weekly wins decide a season title. WordPlayLeague adds divisions with promotion and relegation on top, so there is a table to climb rather than a single leaderboard.

Does everyone need to download an app?

No. Players carry on posting their Wordle result in the group chat, Slack channel or Discord server they already use. There is no app, no account and no website for them to visit. Only the person setting up the league ever logs in.

How does scoring work?

Each day you score the number of guesses it took. Across the week, your best results count toward a weekly total — the manager chooses how many, from three to seven. A lower total is better.

A failed puzzle is thrown out rather than scored, but it does not count as one of your valid days, so failing too often means you do not qualify for the week at all.

What happens if two players tie?

Ties on the weekly total are broken by who played more days, and then by head-to-head results. Where a tie still cannot be separated, the league records joint winners rather than picking arbitrarily — and the Sunday race update tells everyone in advance what a tie would mean.

How long is a season?

A season ends when somebody earns it, not when the calendar says so. The manager sets a target of two to six weekly wins; the first player to reach it takes the title and a new season begins. Close leagues run longer, one-sided ones finish faster.

What are divisions, and how does relegation work?

Leagues with enough players can split into Division I and Division II. At the end of a season the bottom of Division I goes down and the top of Division II comes up.

Missing weeks is what usually sends a player down: anyone who failed to post enough valid scores is relegated ahead of someone who merely played badly, and the league always states which reason applied. Newly promoted players are immune for their first season up.

Can I join a league part-way through a season?

Yes. A player added mid-season is never charged a missed week for any week before they joined, including the partial week they arrive in. They start competing from their first full week.

Who pays — every player, or just the organiser?

Only the manager. One subscription covers the whole league, and players never see a payment screen. Slack and Discord leagues start at $5 a month with a 14-day free trial; group-text leagues start at $8 because carriers charge per message.

Is this affiliated with Wordle or The New York Times?

No. WordPlayLeague is not affiliated with or endorsed by The New York Times, Slack, or any puzzle publisher. Players voluntarily share their own results, and we score what they choose to post.
