Rules and league settings
Every league shows its own live settings on its league page. This is how the system works and what your manager can change.
🔢 Minimum weekly scores
Only your best N scores each week count toward your weekly total. The default is 5, and your manager can set it anywhere from three to seven:
Mode
Mode
At 5, playing all seven days, your two worst scores are thrown out and the best five added up. A lower total is better.
You also need that many valid scores to compete at all. Post four days in a league set to five and the week is recorded as a missed week — which matters a great deal if your league uses divisions.
🕐 Window to post
Each day's Wordle runs midnight to midnight Pacific Time, and the scoring week runs Monday through Sunday. To be fair to players in other time zones there is a three-hour grace window on each side of midnight.
In the last three hours of the day you can post tomorrow's puzzle early; in the first three hours you can still post yesterday's.
Every score counts toward its own puzzle's day, so one posted in the grace window lands on the right day and shows in the weekly table even if it is not on the Latest tab yet.
❌ Fails don't count
If you fail a Wordle (X/6) it does not count as one of your used scores and will not affect your weekly total. Failed attempts appear in the Failed column of the weekly table for reference.
They do count as a 7 in your all-time stats — failing is free for the week but follows you in your career numbers. And since a fail is not a valid score, failing often leaves you short of the weekly minimum.
🤝 Ties share the win
If two or more players finish the week on the same total, they all earn a weekly win. The same applies to the season: if several reach the target together, they share the title.
🏆 Season wins
A season ends when somebody earns it, not when the calendar runs out. The manager sets a target of two to six weekly wins; the first player there is crowned Season Champion and a new season begins.
Standard leagues default to four, division leagues to three. Changing the target affects only current and future seasons — completed seasons are never altered.
⚔️ Division Mode
Leagues with at least six active players can split into two divisions. Each runs its own season race, and players move between them at the end of each season.
Promotion & relegation
The top players from Division II move up and the bottom of Division I drop down — configurable from one to three each way. Two places are automatic: the Division II champion is always promoted, and the Division I champion is always safe.
How players are ranked
- Week participation. Missing a week counts against you most. A missed week would leave an unfairly low total, so those players sort ahead of everyone for relegation and behind everyone for promotion.
- Season total. Among equal participation, the lower cumulative score wins out.
- Weekly wins. Still tied? More wins this season is better.
🎲 Still perfectly level after all three? A random draw decides the last place, and the Sunday race update warns the league in advance when one is on the line.
Immunity
Newly promoted players get immunity for the rest of the Division I season they join. Players added to a league part-way through are never charged a missed week for any week before they joined.
⚙️ What your manager controls
- Minimum weekly scores, from three to seven
- Season length, from two to six weekly wins
- Whether the league uses divisions, and how many move each season
- Which automated messages the league receives
- Who is in the league
Everything else — scoring, grace windows, tie handling, the ranking order — is identical in every league, so results mean the same thing wherever you play.
